The Practice of Democracy: A View From Connecticut
Tuesday, January 17, 2023 through Friday, February 24, 2023
Opening reception on Tuesday, January 17th from 5-7pm in the Burt Chernow Galleries
The Practice of Democracy: A View From Connecticut examines how justice, equality and power appear in our built environment – our cities and neighborhoods, the places we call home. A View From Connecticut is a site-specific immersion of The Practice of Democracy, an interactive exhibit curated by Designing for Democracy in partnership with Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, The Housing Collective, and Regional Plan Association, that explores how – and for whom – Connecticut’s communities were designed.

The Bridgeport Portrait Project is a cultural heritage project that combines documentary-style photography and storytelling. It is a little bit current events mixed with a little history. Jay Misencik and Geralene Valentine have photographed more than 175 people who all have a connection to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Along with taking their photo portrait, Misencik and Valentine give each participant an opportunity to tell their story. The Bridgeport Portrait Project began in 2014 and is ongoing.
