Hidden Gems from the Housatonic Museum of Art
Wednesday, September 13, 2023 - Friday, February 2, 2024
Visitors often exclaim that the Housatonic Museum of Art is a "hidden gem" -- a world-class art collection within a community college in Bridgeport, CT. They marvel at the quality and quantity of works on view, as the HMA proudly displays its collection throughout the CT State Housatonic Campus. In this special exhibition, new and returning visitors have the opportunity to experience highlights from HMA in one place. The exhibition showcases artwork from U.S. and European modern and contemporary artists, and is arranged in loose chronological sections that provide context for understanding the artists' contributions. Featured Artists in the exhibition include Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, Pablo Picasso, Jacob Lawrence, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Romare Bearden, Ansel Adams, Jenny Holzer, and Marisol.
A brief catalogue accompanies the exhibition, with an essay about the early history of the collection written by Sarah Churchill, Adjunct Instructor of Art History, CT State Community College, and Jennifer Reynolds-Kaye, Director of the Housatonic Museum of Art. This exhibition has been curated by Charlotte Lefland, Collections Manager, and Jennifer Reynolds-Kaye.
