BRIDGEPORT – Gound Truth: Mapping the Senses/Charting Experience opens January 13 and continues through February 10, 2012. This exhibition has been curated by Robbin Zella and Susan Sharp and organized by the Housatonic Museum of Art. (The Museum will be closed January 14th - January 16th)
The artists included in Ground Truth: Mapping the Senses/Charting Experience take the term “ground truth” as their point of departure referring to the use of an image to determine identity and location through a combination of research, maps, and personal experience. However, less concerned with the mapping of space, these artists combine their own experiences with imagination resulting in personal images of places/movements/responses that are invested with meaning and memories. The artists in this show are not documenting a physical space, but rather charting an internal reality or mapping an emotional or intellectual response.
Artists included in this exhibit: Leila Daw, New Haven; Susan Sharp, Easton; Suzan Shutan, Hamden; Denis Wood, North Carolin; Eve Ingalls, New Jersey; Pat Steir and Sharon Horvath, New York; Heidi Whitman, Massachusetts; Sarah Amos, Vermont; Chip Lord, California; Christian Nold, England.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be on display in the Burt Chernow Galleries in Lafayette Hall at Housatonic Community College. The opening reception will be held January 13 between 5 and 7pm in the galleries. Free parking is available in the HCC garage.
The galleries are open Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 5:30pm and Thursdays until 7pm. We closed all state and national holidays.(The Museum will be closed January 14th - January 16th)
